BOARDING & TRAINING
PROGRAM
If
you do not have the time to attend weekly classes, or
are located too far away, we offer a boarding & training
program for obedience. Each level is accomplished during
separate 1 month stays with alternate 1 to 2 months of
at home practice time with the owner before continuing
on to the next level. Success at each level depends largely
upon the owners ability to learn the proper training,
doing the homework, and being able to motivate their dog
(and themselves).
The
breed/temperment of the dog also determines the success
the owner will have at each level of training. Some breeds/temperments
are easier and more compliant to work with than others.
As well, if the dog has already learned/cultivated bad
behavior(s) it will take the trainer even longer to alter
that behavior.
During each 1 month stay the owner is expected to attend
2 private classes so that he/she can learn the techniques
that are being used
and work with their dog under the guidance of the trainer.
However, if the owner cannot attend 2 private classes
during their dog’s 1 month stay , it is important that
they be prepared to spend at least 1 hour when they come
to pick the dog up. It is vital that the owner of the
dog spend this time with the trainer and the dog in order
to have success when they get the dog home. Unless the
owner learns how to get their dog to listen to them by
being shown by the trainer, they will have limited success
once they get the dog home.
Sometimes the owner expects far too much from their dog
(and the training that was done) after only 1 or even
2 months of training. Sometimes the trainer will make
recommendations to the owner that would involve changing
how the dog is kept and/or managed that the owner will
not or cannot accommodate. Again, this could affect how
well the training will carry over to the owner.
We recommend that after each 1 month stay that the dog
return home to the owner (for 1 month) so that the dog
and owner have time to re-bond and work together on the
exercises at the level that was covered while the dog
was with us. It is only through time and practice that
you accomplish each level of training.
Each dog is tested when they first arrive so that we can
determine where they are at in terms of their past training…if
a dog is past a level 1 we will start on level 2 work.
However, what level their owners believe them to be at
may not be where we believe they are at. Owners will be
kept apprised of their dogs progress.
Please refer to
and/or
to learn more about the different levels of training offered.
