| 1994 THRU 2005 OBEDIENCE
AWARD WINNERS
We offer all levels of obedience training!
Group
classes are offered year round (weekends, weekdays,
& evenings).
Dogs are trained indoors (3200 sq. ft. modern, heated,
training arena) and outdoors, weather permitting.
Each Level Of Obedience Is 8 Weeks Long
You attend one class a week - each class is normally
1 ½ hours long. We encourage partners to both attend
the training classes and share the homework…after all
your dog has to listen to BOTH OF YOU.
Levels 1 & 2
You
receive written homework sheets at the end of each class
to help you plan your homework sessions. On the last
class you and your dog are tested…we don’t just give
diplomas for attendance. If you and/or your dog are
having a ‘bad hair day” we have you return for a re-test
1 or 2 weeks later. If on the re-test you and/or your
dog are not up to the standards set for these levels,
you are invited back to repeat the entire session again
at no extra charge. This will be dependant on your attending
all classes and completing your homework of course.
This is our guarantee!
Level 1 is to get the untrained dog to focus
on the handler with other dogs and people around. Dogs
beginning Level 1 training must be 4 months of age
or older and be fully vaccinated. All training in Level
1 is on lead so that when you give a command your dog
has no choice but to obey. In Level 1 your dog will
learn to heel properly on a loose leash, sit/stay, down/stay,
come when called, stand for examination, and finish
to the heel position. We do not use treats to bribe
the dog to obey but rather YOU are the treat. We do
not use artificial stimulation to correct or praise
the dog…YOU are taught the proper footwork, tones of
voice to use and how to correct your dog without hitting
or smacking him/her.
Level 2 is to practice and perfect the exercises
learned in level 1, at an advanced level, and to condition
the dog to obey and listen off-lead. As well, we introduce
control exercises, retrieving, some agility exercises,
and prepare dogs and handlers going into CKC or UKC
Companion Dog obedience trials. This is a well rounded
course designed for competitive and non competitive
dogs.
Level
3 is designed for owners who want to train their
dogs for Companion Dog Excellent (CDX) obedience trials
(CKC and UKC). However, we have had many owners who
have no desire to compete with their dogs in obedience
trials continue to this level. We have also custom designed
training programs, at this level, for owners with special
needs. Because of the complexity of training for CDX,
Level 3 is broken into two 8 week training sessions.
Level 3 Session 1 is to introduce and teach the
dog the principles of each exercise (perfect heeling
off lead, figure 8 off lead, drop on recall, flat retrieve,
high jump retrieve, broad jump, and longer out of sight
sit/stays and down/stays. Classes are normally 1 ½ hours
in length. There are no written homework sheets handed
out at this level as we expect that owners/handlers
are better equipped to remember what was covered in
class.
Level 3 Session 2 is to perfect the exercises
with both the dog and handler(s). Classes are normally
1 ½ hours in length. There are no written homework sheets
handed out at this level as we expect that owners/handlers
are better equipped to remember what was covered in
class.
Our Students Are
Encouraged To Use Our Facility Free Of Charge To Practice
Their Homework. (Based on availability of the arena.)
We also offer free Polishing Classes for our students
going into competitive obedience before each major trial.
PLEASE BOOK EARLY AS THESE
CLASSES FILL UP MONTHS IN ADVANCE!
